212 WELS Soccer Camp Update

St. Matthew’s, together with three other area WELS churches, put on a Soccer-Bible Camp every summer for kids age 5-13. The past six summers, we have held a quality soccer camp which provided a positive experience for the many children who have attended it each year.  This year’s camp is underway and will last until Friday, August 9.

The year we have seen our highest enrollment ever.

87 different children have been able to learn about the game of soccer and they are more importantly able to hear about their Savior.

Our Soccer Camp is designed to improve the soccer skills of all the kids involved, whether they are beginners or already have gained some experience on the soccer pitch. Our pastor loves the game, he has played and coached it himself, and is joined by a group of coaches who will share their soccer skills with the camp participants.

Our camp is about more than soccer, though. It is about life.  It is about God.  It is about the real life that God has given us.  And we think that the game of soccer is a great venue to share that message and even help the children to understand it better.  We always use the game of soccer to teach the children how much their Savior loves them. Each day, the children are taught a Bible lesson about Jesus’ love.  This important message is given to the children in fun, creative, and genuine ways that really hit home with them. Something they are familiar with – the game of soccer – helps get that message across!

But they also learn the game of soccer. We have wonderful coaches who will be coaching the children in the skills of the game. And they are great with kids!  The camps run 5 days, from Monday through Friday, 1:00 – 4:00 PM. There is a charge per child, but each child is also given a quality jersey and water bottle with camp logos on them. Not to mention, a free closing BBQ picnic for the whole family!
